From a Brewery Desk to the Head of a Worldwide Church: The Story of Pastor A.A. Bada

When Papa Oshoffa died on 10 September 1985 without naming a successor, the young church faced one of its hardest seasons. Several followers laid claim to the leadership, and a legal conflict followed that ran for years. Out of that moment came the man who would lead the Celestial Church of Christ for the next fifteen years: Alexander Abiodun Adebayo Bada.

According to Wikipedia, Bada was born on 4 December 1930, the son of a village head from the Ago-Oba area of Abeokuta who also played the organ at the African Church in Ereko, Lagos. He grew up in that church, studied at Ilesa Grammar School, and in 1950 started work with Nigerian Breweries, where he was promoted to stock control supervisor by 1952.

That same year, he met Superior Evangelist S.O. Ajanlekoko of the CCC, and it changed his path. He left his job to work full-time for the church and climbed steadily: Senior Elder in 1954, Leader in 1955, Evangelist in 1964, Senior Evangelist in 1972 and, on 25 December 1980, Supreme Evangelist, the first person to hold that rank, next only to the Pastor.

The Board of Trustees announced him as the new Pastor at the annual convocation on 25 December 1985, and he was formally installed at Imeko on 25 December 1987. He died on 8 September 2000 in London and was buried at Celestial City, Imeko. The CCC Makoko page marked the 25th anniversary of his passing in September 2025 with a remembrance service and the launch of the Rev. A.A. Bada Foundation.

Over to you:
- What do you remember, or what have your elders told you, about the Bada years in the church?
- A career change led him into full-time ministry. Has a turning point like that shaped your own walk with God?
